Mens 1 v Oakbrook 1 (H) - 6/10/14

The first outing of the season for Men's 1 under new captain Rich was a home match against local rivals Oakbrook. Arun was the only absentee from the nominated 6 with Clive stepping up to partner Prithvi.

Rich and Steve played as first pair and went head to head in their opening game against Oakbrook's best pair. Taking the first game to 17 in a tight end, their opponents evened things up to 16 in the second end. Steve and Rich pushed on in the third end and took an 11-2 lead, sealing the deciding end to 11. Clive and Prithvi were on court at the same time going down to 15 and 12 against a solid father
and son pair. Sam and Mark went out at number 3 in an attempt to have their obligatory warm up game against what should have been their easiest task of the night. Indeed, they took the first end to 3 but then managed to lose the second end 22-20. They rallied in the third and managed to win to 12.

Second round of matches saw Steve and Rich face the third pair of Oakbrook, winning out to 10 and 11 and playing some great stuff to see off a technically good pair. Prithvi and Clive
played the top pair, losing the first to 12 but having a great game in the second to get 19 and nearly take it to a third. Sam and Mark had a simple game in this round coming off winners to 10 and 8.

Final round and Ranmoor lead 4-2 with 3 to play for. 1 win needed. Sam and Mark went on and won their first end to 9 but got taken to a third end losing the second to 16. Sam likes his monies worth. Meanwhile Clive and Prithvi went down to 18 in the first end before coming back and taking the second end to 17 and forcing a third end. At this point Steve and Rich faced the prospect of having to play for the match last on if Oakbrook took both third ends in the games that were on. They needn't have worried as both pairs came through to win their third ends and give Ranmoor a 6-2 lead. Steve and Rich went on and completed the final round domination with wins to 17 and 11.

7-2 the final result and a great effort by all. Special thanks to Clive for stepping into the team and playing some great stuff and getting us points on the board. A solid first win in what I'm sure will be a great season.
