Men’s 1 welcomed PMC 2 for their final home game of the
season on Monday night. The regular 4
players once again paired up with Sam & Rich continuing their partnership
while Andy & Dave W are rarely split despite a poor run of results. The nights 3rd pairing saw regular
men’s 2 pair Arun & Prithvi given a run out at the higher level.
The night started with Rich & Sam taking on the toughest
pairing the opposition had to offer, they were made to work but scrapped
through in straight ends to get the night off to a winning start. On the other court Dave & Andy were
working hard in winning their first end but unfortunately couldn’t convert the
hard work into a win losing out in the decider.
It was the turn of Arun & Prithvi next and they worked their socks
off in the tight 3 ender, each game going to 21-19 and our boys coming back in
a tight deciding end to win with a lot of fist pumping being done throughout
the latter 2 ends.
In the second round of games Dave W & Andy were
dispatched by the strongest pair to 6 & a more respectable 13 while the
same pair also played out of order to take out Arun & Prithvi to 19 &
18. Sam & Rich at least salvaged a
point from the round winning comfortably to 6 & 10 against the third
pair. Sam & Rich then went out and
made it 3 out of 3 with another straight ends victory against the second pair.
This left us 4-3 up and needing only one of the remaining
rubbers to seal our first win of the season.
The games went on simultaneously with Dave & Andy playing the third
pair whilst Arun & Prithvi took on the 2nd pair. Both first ends went the way of the visitors
to 12 & 19 respectively. Unfortunately
neither pair could pull their games around in losing 18 & 13 respectively
in the second ends. A sad way to finish
our home season having been in a winning position on a couple of occasions.
Once again the cake was the highlight of the night, Sam
ain’t getting out of captaincy just yet despite our relegation back to division
2. One final match away against Uni
Staff to finish the season off and try to salvage a win for personal pride.
