Mens 1 v Jaguar 1 (H) - 11/3/13

The first match of the season against Jaguar 1 came quite late in both sides seasons, both only having 4 games to play including the 2 against each other.  With the visitors undefeated record so far this season we expected a tough match, although they could expect the same with our performances so far.

With 3 courts available for the match we had to juggle the pair order with Dave & Rich being a little late to arrive so playing at 3rd pair.  This meant that Sam & Ravi were upped to pair 1 and set about the task of trying to beat what turned out to be the strongest pair on the night, they battled back in the 1st end from an early 9 point deficit but couldn't quite get through before wining the 2nd end to 14 & pushing the 3rd end all the way in losing out 21-18.  On the other courts Dave & Rich were making up for lost time as they disposed of the 3rd pair to 11 & 12 while Dave & Andy were making their customary meal of things in going the distance against the 2nd pair before eventually succeeding 23-21 in the decider.

A good start gave us a 2-1 lead but the hard work wasn't over yet.  Dave & Andy took on the 1st pair and never got going in losing 5 &, a more respectable, 13.  Sam & Ravi also were struggling against the 3rd pair going down 14 & 17 so the 2nd round of games saw Dave & Rich pull out our only win 18 & 17 against the 2nd pair.  The scores were level going into the last round of games.  Dave & Andy, usually good under pressure couldn't put their games together for once and lost out 14 & 6, unable to force the opposition into a nervy finish.  Sam & Ravi managed to get their win for the night in beating the 2nd pair 15 & 16 so that left Dave & Rich on court against the 1st pair knowing a win would secure the match.  They had already lost the first end to 16 before the other games finished but it was nip & tuck before a few close points saw the visitors home again to 16.

A closely fought 5-4 defeat then but plenty for us to look at & try to beat them at their place next month.  Congratulations to Jaguar 1, whose victory secured their promotion back to division 1, we look to bounce back from this with a couple more victories to secure our place alongside them, roll on Jaguar 2 in a fortnight.
