Comb 2 v Oakbrook 2 (A) - 19/3/13

The first match of a double-header week for Combined 2 saw us pay a visit to near neighbours Oakbrook 2 on a Tuesday night.  With Clive stepping in at number 1 man, Lesley returning and Cindy in place of a holidaying Cat we had a few new combinations for the side.

First up Cindy & Jane saw off their opponents in 2 ends both quite comfortably whilst Clive & Dave W were making hard work of the 1st end before coming out to 15 and then made the second a bit easier in winning to 8.  At this point we were reduced to one court for the match due to a popular club night so Cindy & Lesley took the court and won easily 11 & 6, looking like a strong pairing for the upcoming games.  Clive & Dave H took on the stronger men's pairing & never really hit their stride as they went down in 2 ends.  So at the end of the level doubles it was 3-1 to Ranmoor.

Dave W & Jane were first on against their 2's opponents and didn't get off to the best start, being 5 points down early on, before battling back to take the game to 20-20 but couldn't quite see it home.  This only spurred them on though as they came back with solid starts in the other 2 ends but could never quite get away, although they managed to win both to 17 & 18.  Dave H & Lesley made short work of their 1st end against the 3rd pair in winning to 8 before the 2nd was a tighter affair as they got home to 17 and secured the match 5-1.

At this point we were back to 2 courts so Clive & Cindy took their mixed debut for Ranmoor on the 2nd court and managed to get home in straight ends, showing their experience and skill as a pairing should prove useful for the team.  On the other court Dave W & Jane were again making hard work of the 1st end, taking the game all the way to a tight finish and ultimate loss of 26-24.  Again they had to battle back and did so in style winning the remaining ends 11 & 14.  Last on was Dave H & Lesley who never got away from their opponents but managed to win to 15 & 18 to complete a whitewash of the mixed games.

So an 8-1 victory sets us up nicely for a game against a strong Beaverhill side on Friday night and the remaining matches this season.
