After a 6-3 defeat at home earlier in the season we knew we
had a tough game ahead of us away at Mosborough. With 3 courts available, we
had a mens, ladies and mixed match all straight on. Sam and Ravi came away with
a victory, as did Claire and Cindy, who was stepping up for her first team
debut in Helen’s absence. Rich and Karen lost their first end to 16 after a
slow start and lost their second end 22-20 despite being 19-16 up, sorry guys!
So after the first round we had a lead of 2-1.
Karen and Cindy and Rich and Ravi were the next doubles
matches but both came up short. Sam and Claire went out and won their opening
mixed in 3 ends. This left the score 3-3 with the team who took the majority of
the last 3 matches, the overall winner.
Rich and Karen went out with something to prove and were
clinical in dispatching the mixed pair to 9 and 12. This left us needing 1 of
the final 2 matches to take the match. Sadly, Claire and Sam were beaten by the
pair that had earlier been better than Karen and Rich. Ravi and Cindy had lost out in
their first end but were battling hard in the second to take it to a third end.
The second end went to 20-20 and then 23-23. Ranmoor eventually lost out 25-23
and the match was lost 5-4.
Disappointing to lose but ultimately a game we should not
have expected to win against last year’s league champs! We still look on for
finishing a heady third in our maiden season in the top division.
